A shareable, whimsical, french fry-lovers dream come true, the McCain Happy Frydays Café was a month-long immersive retail experience in downtown Toronto that featured an ever-changing menu of McCain favourites prepared in creative and tasty ways.
First stop upon arrival is ordering, followed by being handed a raw potato to place in the rotating potato conveyor belt, sending it off to the kitchen for the preparation of your meal. Next, as you wait, take a photo in the air fryer disco. When your order is called, head to the pick-up window and enjoy!
Laddering up to McCain’s tagline “Together is Golden”, every aspect of the space was designed to be shared. In addition to the dining experience, it featured several photo op walls, a photo booth, and a merch table inspired by concerts stocked with fry-themed tees, toques, and more. Every Friday, a new themed menu item was offered for a limited time, such as Halloween-themed Fright Fries and Taylor Swift Eras Tour-themed specials.
In my role, I helped design the interior and exterior walls, merch, and various printed material such as the takeout bags and napkins. A highlight of this experience was receiving a personalized glowing review from Canadian TV legend Jessi Cruickshank (see below)!
